EXTERIOR
Introduced in 1980 to celebrate Porsches ongoing successes in the iconic 24 Hour Le Mans race, the 924 Le Mans was produced in numbers of just 1030 under option code M426, with this being one of only 100 produced in right hand drive. Finished in the only colour available, Alpine White (Code P1), this example is remarkably original with a bright uniform finish. It is revealed in the huge history file that during dry storage in the 1980’s, part of the barn roof was dislodged in a storm and light cosmetic repairs were needed to the removable sunroof and front wing. Another anecdotal incident reveals an overtaking car flicked a cats eye in to the front lower apron requiring another light repair.
INTERIOR
Based on ongoing ergonomic research and racing experience, this exceptional cockpit supports the driver’s individual requirements and measurements with its utterly gorgeous special Black leatherette sports seats with black/white pinstripe fabric and white borders, (Code WG).
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
An in-line four-cylinder front mounted 1984cc high compression engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection develops 125bhp allowing a sprint to 60mph in 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 125mph. The 5-speed MD Type gearbox offers direct and positive changes.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard on the Le Mans edition, the light alloy wheels are black powder coated with bright lathe-turned spokes and polished Porsche crest centre caps. All wheels are in excellent condition with only minor markings, and all four tyres are matching premium brand Goodyear with masses of tread. Fitted with a 9-inch servo coupled to a diagonal dual circuit braking system, front floating caliper disc brakes and well proven drum brakes at the rear all help to inspire braking confidence.
HISTORY FILE
A Certificate of Authenticity issued on 16th May 2014 by Porsche Cars Great Britain Limited confirms this car was produced on 9th August 1980 with first registration on 10th September 1980. The selling Porsche Centre was Roger Clark Cars Ltd of Narborough who were also the first owners. The first private owners were the Matthews family who kept the car for 19 years covering 45,000 miles, and it was even used as their daughter’s wedding car with photographs in the file as a wonderful keepsake. Incredibly, the cars history and owners are traceable throughout the cars lifetime and having been known to the Porsche 924 Owners Club for many years. This example is even featured on the club website and has been the subject of various club articles and entries in the TwoFour24, the magazine of The Porsche 924 Owners Club, most recently as January 2019. In fact the owner until April 2018 was a previous Chairman of the 924 Owners Club who wrote about the history of the car in TwoFour Magazine issue 16 and concluded by saying, ‘the car is almost totally original with perfect interior’. The history file is simply colossal, beautifully organised and presented, and thorough perusal would take hours! All original manuals and stamped service book are housed in the rare Porsche red wallet even include the ultra-rare Porsche Possessions personal accessories cards complete with order form, for the smartest Porsche owner in town! The huge history folder holds masses of Porsche main dealer and specialist invoices and countless club articles, including the 2011 Club AGN where this car won ‘Best Naturally Aspirated’ and photos of it at the NEC Classic Car Show on the Porsche stand.
