On Tuesday, April 23, 2019 I had the chance to capture a few pieces of this magic at the Cabaret Fundraiser held at Lincoln Square in the Clark Theatre. Feast your auditory and visual taste buds on the supreme talents of Anton Spivack and Samantha Elisofon singing, "One Hand, One Heart" from the timeless Broadway classic of West Side Story. The Cabaret Fundraiser also featured many more tunes from contemporary pop culture and other Broadway shows such as Rent! What is most unique about EPIC Players is how the majority of actors, singers, and dancers are all affected by some form of a disability whether it is autism, non-verbal, Down Syndrome, and plenty of other challenges that have not stopped them from becoming capable custodians of complex art forms. The Cabaret fundraiser raised well over $30,000 and even received a generous donation from HBO and has impressed Broadway actors. Samantha Elisofon is the co-star in the movie, "Keep the Change," which has been a pioneer in the sense that the actors on the autism spectrum were actually played by individuals affected by autism instead of neurotypical actors portraying people in this population. "Keep the Change" won the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017 and even featured some of the other performers from EPIC Players. This is only the beginning of what EPIC Players will have to offer the world and all the others who will follow in this theatre company's footsteps!
The EPIC Players are an inclusive company of neuro-typical and alter-abled actors, directors, designers, educators and technicians alike; effectively redefining the face of current mainstream theatre. Company members participate in the EPIC performance season and all EPIC skills and development classes. Company membership is by audition only. Auditions are held twice a year and on a rolling basis by appointment only. Please email: info@epicplayersnyc.org for more information or to schedule an audition.
