If the electrical grid goes down in a SHTF scenario, the first thing a person needs to do is to collect water, because a person can only live 3 days without water. Most cities supply their homes with gravity fed water towers. If there is no electricity then the pumps will not be working to replace water lost in the storage tanks which are elevated up to 100 feet into the air. It will not take very long until all of the water in the storage tanks are depleted by people in their homes running water for baths, showers, washing hands, cooking, and flushing the toilet. So, a person has about one hour to fill up their bathtub as soon as they realize that the electrical grid has gone down. You should also fill up 5 gallon buckets, jars, anything that can hold water. A person should also have the ability to make water safe to drink by stocking up on water purification tablets or drops. There are many professional water filters that can be purchased online. One should also make a 5 gallon bucket filled with gravel, sand, and charcoal for a DIY water purification system. There are several videos on YouTube explaining how to do this.
