Bridegroom fights for life after falling 12ft through banister A bridegroom has been left fighting for his life after falling 12ft from a banister on the way to his honeymoon suite on his wedding night to his 'soulmate'.Chris Mallon had just married his bride Avril when he suffered a 'significant brain injury' after plunging onto a paved area on in the early hours of Saturday morning last week.It came just hours after Chris, who was in his 50s and Avril, tied the knot surrounded by their friends and family at the Macdonald Houstoun House hotel in Uphall, West Lothian in Scotland.Following the accident, Chris was put into an induced coma, and since then Avril has been keeping a bedside vigil. Share this article Share The couple (pictured together on holiday) had just tied the knot with all of their friends and family 'Friday was just perfect we had the most amazing day and night celebrating with our family and friends at the McDonald Houston House Hotel.'She added that at the end of the night after the guest left, a staff member at the hotel had helped Chris to take gifts and cards up to the suite – which is in a separate building.'At the top of the stairs Chris lost his footing and he went to grab the banister and fell right through the large gap down 12-foot onto the pavement below.'This was an accident waiting to happen.'Myself and his family have never left his side and we are just praying and hoping that our love will pull him through. Chris and Avril had been looking forward to their big day and Avril shared the heart breaking news of Chris' condition on Facebook 'Please keep him in your prayers.'The hotel is a popular wedding venue and the main building dates all the way back to the 16th Century.On the morning of the wedding day Chris said on Facebook: 'Looking forward to our big day.
