Ear wax removal is necessary when ear wax build up becomes impacted. Symptoms causes by ear wax blockage include: earache (otalgia), conductive hearing loss, blocked ear, vertigo, tinnitus, itchiness and irritation, occlusion etc.
The client attended with deep, hard, occluding and impacted ear wax in the left ear. This was causing her great discomfort and pain.
It was more challenging to remove the ear wax given the client was already experiencing earache upon attending. I attempted endoscopic ear suction but the ear wax was simply too hard and impacted. I therefore used an Ear Hook to break the ear wax into smaller pieces which could then be suctioned.
After applying some olive oil ear wax drops, I subsequently was able to extract a large piece of ear wax to expose the tympanic membrane. There was a hard, dry crust of ear wax around the edge of the tympanic membrane which I successfully managed to also extract using a Fine End Gauge 18, applying instilling some olive oil ear wax drops.
The client was extremely grateful for the time spent and also performing the procedure as delicately as I could so to ensure it was not adding to her pre-existing otalgia.
