According to Brazil’s space research center (INPE), the number of fires is already 80 percent higher than last year and 99 percent of them are a result of human action. More than 73,000 fires have already been detected over the past weeks.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro suggested recently that NGOs might be starting the fires in an attempt to damage their reputations.
