“Colorado Springs firefighter was sentenced to a year in jail on Friday for child sex crimes.
Robert Stambaugh, 59, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of child pornography-20 or more images. His sentence includes 10 years of Sex Offender Intensive Supervised Probation.
His charges allowed him to be sentenced anywhere from four to 12 years in prison. His jail sentence is a work release, meaning if he gets a job he will be allowed to leave jail for work during the day.
Judge David Gilbert handed out the sentence.
Stambaugh was arrested last October after spending 32 years with the Colorado Springs Fire Department as a firefighter and paramedic. According to arrest papers obtained by 11 News, at the time of his arrest Stambaugh admitted to engaging in fantasy talk online with others for about a year. According to the arrest papers, the "fantasy" talk included the uploading and downloading of images of children under the age of 18 engaged in sexual acts. He was allegedly a member of an online chat group where adults bragged about sexually preying on children according to the arrest affidavit.
Investigators examined the contents of a tablet Stambaugh reportedly identified as his own. On this tablet, authorities saw "two videos of unknown prepubescent females without breast development or pubic hair engaged in sexual intercourse with unknown adult males."
