SURAT: In a tragic incident, two youngsters were electrocuted while five others suffered severe injuries after a huge Ganesha idol they were bringing for installation touched overhead high-tension wire in Ankleshwar on Tuesday.

Around 15-20 youths were entering the town near Adarsh Market area with the idol they had bought from Surat, when the mast touched the overhead wire of Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (DGVCL). The accident sparked panic as two persons— Amit Solanki and Kunal Patel — died on the spot even as their friends made desperate attempts to resuscitate them. The wires were hanging below 20 foot. In no time, the youngsters started falling on the ground one after another getting electric jolts.
The deceased were residents of housing board quarters.

The idol was brought in a truck from Surat and then taken on a trolley. All injured were rushed to Jayaben Modi Hospital in Ankleshwar where condition of two persons is stated to be critical .
