ECOWAS, the Economic Community of West African States, has asked Nigeria to revise its border control strategy and to allow the movement of people and goods across its borders.

Nigeria's border security mission led jointly by the army, the police, customs and the immigration services, has implemented the partial closure of land and maritime borders with countries such as Benin and Cameroon. These neighbouring countries are struggling with the measures.

They're worried about what this means for the African Continental Free Trade Zone agreement signed in July 2019 and what one of the continent's biggest economies is trying to prove.
