So, what are the omega 3 fatty acids and the benefits they provide?

This video helps to explain how your body is likely under-performing, by understanding the role that omega 3 fatty acids play in your overall wellbeing.

So, let's take a step back to find out:

1. What the omega 3 fatty acids are;

2. What the "imbalance" refers to; and

3. What the health benefits are.

#1. What Exactly Are Omega 3 Fatty Acids and How Essential Are They to Our Health?

Omega 3s are known as essential fatty acids that are integral to helping maintain a healthy body and mind.

These fatty acids are not naturally produced by our bodies, so we have to absorb them through our diets and the food we eat.

Foods high in omega 3 fatty acids content include:

(1) fatty fish, such as mackerel and salmon;

(2) seeds, such as flaxseed (also know as linseed), hemp seeds, chia seeds and soybeans;

(3) avocados; and

(4) walnuts, plus hazelnuts and pecan nuts.

#2. Do these Omega 3 supplements redress the Omega 6:Omega 3 imbalance?

The answer to that is probably not, and most people are totally unaware of what their imbalance reading is and what it should be.

There are 3 main types of Omega 3 fatty acids, and they derive from animal foods and plant food, such as algae.

#3. What Are the Health Benefits of Omega 3 Fatty Acids?

1. Reducing certain fats.

(1) Fatty liver.

Omega 3 fatty acid supplements help to reduce excess fat from your liver.

(2) Blood triglycerides.

Omega 3 supplements help to reduce blood triglycerides.... a type of fat (lipid) found in blood cells.

It's main purpose is to generate energy.

(3) Cholesterol.

Cholesterol - produced by the liver - helps to produce hormones and nutrients such as vitamin D.

When combined with cholesterol-inducing substances in our food, it creates plaque that clogs and blocks the arteries.

Note: Omega 3s do not reduce cholesterol levels in your blood.

2. Issues involving the brain.

(1) Depression and anxiety.

Fish oil is recognised as helping to combat depression and anxiety.

(2) Dementia.

Some studies now suggest that a higher omega 3 intake can help reduce the risk, and slow the on-set, of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

3. Children.

(1) Babies.

An interesting assertion is that DHA taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding helps to improve a baby's mental processing capabilities and it's optical (eye) development and health.

(2) ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

ADHD is related to the central nervous system and affects the brain's development that can impact on a child's ability to be attentive, such as being able to sit still and exercise self-control. Omega 3 supplements are reckoned to improve these symptoms.

(3) Asthma.

Asthma is the inflammation of the bronchial tubes.

Research and tests suggest that omega 3s might help alleviate asthma symptoms in children and young adults.

4. Inflammation and pain.

Omega 3s can help to suppress pain, such as menstrual pain, and reduce inflammatory conditions such as autoimmune diseases (a condition where your immune system attacks your body, such as your joints, for example, rheumatoid arthritis, or your skin).

5. Cancer and heart diseases.

It is reported that consuming foods that are high in omega 3 has been linked to helping reduce the risk of various cancers such as breast, prostate and colon cancers.

Likewise, with regard to helping reduce heart attacks and strokes.

The reality is that there is no conclusive evidence that omega 3s have a significant beneficial effect on cancers and heart diseases.
