Contested Bones 94 Junk on ENCODE & Sticking it to stick insects

Contested Bones 94 Junk on ENCODE & Sticking it to stick insects Evolution Hour 121 dives into Rupe & Sandford’s genetic evidence chapter, which starts with a shameless misrepresentation of Dan Graur & the ENCODE project (misspelling his name twice as “Grauer”). It’s a really good lecture on the nature of junk DNA that flatly slams the assumptions creationists like Rupe & Sanford hold on the genetics

Slide 16 Rupe/Sanford quote-mined from was NOT the opinion of Graur, but rather referred to the views of Jonathan Wells’ Junk DNA book (that if ENCODE is right, then evolution is wrong). The substance of the lecture explicitly complained (Slides 10-15) about news media & creationists misrepresenting the ENCODE work!

In Slide 19 of the lecture Graur directly mentioned his paper on this which Rupe/Sanford never cited.

Also Graur noted 2004 Nobrega paper on genome deserts, whose deletion is consistent with normal evolutionary genetics and the existence of non-functioning zones in DNA

And Graur cited Ahituv 2007 on deletion of ultraconserved elements yielding viable mice

Part 2. Denyse O’Leary linked to UD

Her statement: “Stick insects’ “remarkable camouflage” postdates mammals and birds. There was not as much time as was thought for the Darwinian claims.” Cue the Map of Time as we look at the actual paper Simon

I’m doing my part on the science defense front, including how antievolutionists ignore the reptile-mammal transition macroevolution evidence (paleontologist Christine Janis described ESD in her Amazon review as “an incredible tour de force”)

Source Methods works as a debate approach too, catch my joust with Kent Hovind and let me know how you think it went for the creationist.
