How To Create Leverage Before Heading Out With Your Reactive Dog

How To Create Leverage Before Heading Out With Your Reactive Dog Adding to our conversation about creating leverage with your reactive dog before heading out for a walk or other event...

This video demonstrates the process of getting a pup geared up for an off campus experience. Koa and I were headed out to Lake Underhill to continue our work with his obedience in a high distraction environment.

Much of the change we’ve seen in Koa, his reactivity and how he views his humans, is directly related to all of the small interactions leading up to our excursions. This new lifestyle filled with structure and routine has paved way for stability and reliability. Any moments of pushiness, brattiness in the form of offering behaviors before they asked, are addressed immediately. This has a dramatic effect on how Koa views me and interprets our relationship. Patterning calm, controlled behavior will help dissolve any reactivity that may bubble to the surface otherwise.

We headed to Lake Underhill today and were met with a wonderful dose of novelty for Koa! Because of the leverage we’ve cultivated, this boy slayed it around some new, and heavy distraction!

Awesome job today sweet boy!
