What are you afraid of?
What are you hiding?
What is it that you do not want us to see at work or wish you could talk to us about at work?
When working with LinkedIn Sales Solutions in North America on Project Ignite we have been working to find a safe space amount colleagues and the results have been outstanding and life changing.
I want you to start thinking about what things you have been holding onto, maybe your whole career or more recently due to things that have happened to you in the past or even recently.
If you have a mask, most emotionally intelligent people can see it, they can tell you are not being completely yourself, been a bit contained or holding back or that you have recently changed. Now if you think about it logically, if you have a mask on and holding things back, what do people think? What do people assume? They think you are hiding something and normally assume it is a weakness. So if somebody see's a mask, they are assuming weaknesses which doesn't actually help you.
No matter how hard it is to remove the mask, you will benefit from it, I promise you. You will feel a sense of relief and the team will rally around you. I would advise you to think about building a team around you where you can feel safe to talk. Get to know people, build some trust through openness so that you can talk and remove the mask.
It is not something you should do quickly, it is something you should do carefully with people who are there to support you but I would like you to start buildings elf awareness about what it is you are hiding, what are the masks you are wearing and trying to see if you think you can find away to start to let it go, to start opening up a window so we can see you inside.
