Celtic are keen on making Fraser Forster’s loan deal from Southampton permanent but they could struggle to meet his wage demands. The goalkeeper has fallen out of favour with the Saints and was even demoted to third-choice behind Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn. As a result the club were willing to send him out on loan and Celtic were happy to be reunited with a keeper who had previously spent four seasons at the Parkhead club. Following his return to Celtic Forster has been in great form but Neil Lennon’s chances of making the move permanent has hit a considerable hurdle. When Forster was the number one keeper at St Mary’s, Manchester United had reportedly showed interest in the player. This was at a time when United were still negotiating a new contact with David de Gea and the club feared the Spaniard might leave Old Trafford. The Red Devils considered Forster as an alternative if De Gea left, however, in response to that interest Southampton offered Forster a huge pay increase.
