Last summer, Mercedes-Benz put into circulation the first Premium pick-up on the market: the X-Class 2018. A model based on the Nissan Navara, which is available with four-cylinder diesel engines, with 163 and 190 hp. And here we present its most powerful variant: the X 350 d 4MATIC, equipped with a six-cylinder turbo diesel engine.
Specifically, it is a mechanical 3.0 V6, which develops 258 HP of power and 550 Nm of maximum torque, available from 1,400 rpm. By way of comparison, we will say that a Volkswagen Amarok 3.0 V6 TDI BMT 4MOTION equals the 550 Nm of maximum torque of the Mercedes ... but its power remains at 224 hp.
Acceleration is probably not one of the priorities for customers of this type of vehicle: 128 mph maximum speed and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds.
This mechanics is sold coupled to the automatic transmission with 7G-TRONIC PLUS torque converter, seven-speed, and a traction system, equipped with a gearbox and, in normal conditions, sends 60% of the torque to the rear wheels . In addition, it also has a rear differential lock, a great help to overcome difficult terrain.
The aesthetic section of Class X adapts to the lines marked by the rest of the brand's models. The large front star dominates a large grill with headlights that are very familiar and smooth lines. The rear lights with LED technology and the alloy wheels of 17 and 18 inches (19 ”in option) have just finished off a set with a lot of flavor to Mercedes-Benz.
We jump inside the first pick-up of the German house and we meet, again, with the language of Mercedes-Benz. A large touch screen chairs the dashboard over four aerators and a metal trim that is replicated by the rest of the cabin. The surfaces are pleasant to the touch with some elements upholstered in imitation leather and, those that are not, are textured hard plastic with good finishes.
In the driving position the multifunction steering wheel is of leather-trimmed content such as the gear knob and the handbrake lever. Behind him hide the cams of the automatic transmission (standard) and a control panel with double analog dial escorted a digital display for travel and vehicle information.
It is true that the interior wins with respect to its cousins Navara and Alaskan, especially in the infotainment system used, but in fact it is not a cabin that is especially bright compared to tourism. After all, the X-Class is a country car and the absence of more padded panels in favor of hard plastic is logical. The upholsteries are of quality and between the front seats the traditional Mercedes-Benz passenger car control knob makes a difference with its counterparts. The rear seats are typical of a pick-up, just but not too comfortable.
At the character level, Dynamic Select electronics and their five driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Manual and Offroad) determine the character of the X-Class. Variations act on the throttle response, the behavior of the gearbox and the regulation of driving aids and are complemented by three modes of permanent 4x4 transmission: 4MAT, 4H and 4L.
Technology is also a key point of the X 350d Class and is that it incorporates standard elements such as keyless entry and start, slope start assistant, LED lighting, 360º parking assistant, Thermotronic or seats with electric regulation. Safety has also been reinforced with Active Brake Assist, seven airbags, ESP with trailer stability control, lane maintenance assistant, tire pressure control (not mandatory for pick-up, for now) and signal recognition ( optional).
