Vagamon || An Enchanting destination My Trip to Vagamon
An Enchanting destination..

One of the best hill stations of Kerala, Vagamon is a serene and picturesque town that is placed on the border of Idukki-Kottayam districts on Idukki’s side.
Nestled between mountains, valleys, meadows and lush green capped hills you will definitely fall in love with this place.
The climate is pleasant throughout the year and thus tourists visit this quaint destination throughout the year and is one of the best places for honeymooners, bikers to enjoy a thrilling and amazing ride experience on the winding roads.
Located at an altitude of 1100 m above the sea level, this hill destination in Kerala was listed in National Geographic Traveller’s directory of the ‘50 most attractive places to visit in India’.
Vagamon is home to some of the best view points that offer excellent breathtaking views of the surrounding pristine beauty along with memorable sunset views.
I went on a two day trip in my bike joining with Alappuzha Sanchari Unit group.
Road distance from Kochi to Vagamon is 102 Km and it took 3.5 hrs for me to to reach via Pala & Erattupetta route.
On the way to Vagamon from Erattuetta , you can drop in Maramala Waterfalls to have a glimpse of this hidden waterfalls and can even take a dip in it.
Reaching Vagamon we headed to Vagamon Tea Lake situated in Vagamon town, the small pristine lake besides the tea plantations is perfectly picturesque and there is a small wooden walk board bridge to cross the lake.
The lake is scenic and picturesque, a perfect place for photography.
Entry is Rs.10 and there is separate charges for the Boating.
After lunch we headed to Pine Forest Valley, which is another important attraction of Vagamon. Dense Pine trees grown over the foothills of the mountains offers a great views and this is also a notable filming and photography shooting spot.

We walked through the misty valley is really an amazing a beautiful experience especially when it started drizzling and dewdrops cluster on the pine leaves.
Driving to our nest destination we headed to visit Palozhugum Para Waterfalls or milk flowing rock, a scenic and gorgeous cascading waterfalls, which comes alive during monsoon season and remains dry during non-rainy seasons.
As the name says, the water looks like flowing milk with its white colour amidst the rocks and green capped hill slopes.
We walked down on a narrow stepped pathway through a private property, where an old couples demanded money from us to walk through their property and paying them we reached the base of the waterfalls to take a dip in the pool.
The weather was so pleasant and it was drizzling we made a pit stop in Vagamon town for chai and quick bites, then we headed to our hotel after visiting the falls.

On Our Day-2 we started with 3 jeeps to visit some of the view points driving off-road at 8:30 AM.
First we headed to Kottamala View Point the off road jeep ride was thrilling as the jeep drove over the boulders and bumpy roads and boulders, rumbled paths over the hill slopes , then we took off road route to Dam Reservoir View Point the view were amazing and we could spot the distant view of Idukki Reservoir .
Our next stop we headed to another swindling off road like roller coaster and reached Uluppini Vellaramchitta Tunnel, Kappakannam waterfalls. Both these attractions are located adjacent to each other. We walked few steps inside the tunnel and felt bit scary and then walked back.Next we rode to Uluppini Top Station View point..
Uluppini is about 16 Km from Vagamon and its famous for its picturesque views of the lush green meadows and grass capped hills. After visiting Uluppini Top Station View Point we headed back to our Resort at 2:00 AM to have our lunch and check-out from hotel and then headed to visit the Renovated St. Andrews Church that got featured in Mohanlals`s Lucifer climax scene. St Andrews Church in Idukki's Upputhara rose to fame when one of the significant scenes of the blockbuster movie Lucifer was shot in this ruined church. Now, the church got a facelift when Lucifer's producer Antony Perumbavoor renovated the church, under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
The bike ride was amazing experience as I drove through the narrow paths of the tea estates and narrow off roads through the interior villages of Vagamon.
Finally I headed back to Mottakunnu View point a curved dome shaped grass turf hill offering great views of the Vagamon meadows another scenic spot. By that time it started drizzling and mist started unfolding over the hills… I descended the hills bidding good bye to Vagamon hills reached back Kochi in next 4 hours.
