HB 4325 updates and clarifies in statute the scope of practice for LPCs. If this legislation is not enacted, over 10,000 LPCs could find themselves unable to practice here in Michigan. They also argue that they would not be eligible for reimbursement from insurance companies for their services. The bill would update the statute with current counseling practices, including psychotherapy and diagnosis. Further, access to behavioral health care is a serious problem across the country and in Michigan for a number of different reasons, including a shortage of mental health professionals.
