The pioneer of Shohei Ohtani, the well-known two-way baseball player, has actually existed in Japanese anime since 1968. The man is named... Hyūma Hoshi, the main character of "Star of the Giants".
The professional southpaw, Hyūma, once retires from baseball due to his serious injured arm right after the miracle throw of the game. However, his passion for baseball makes him comeback as a hitter after several years of self rehabilitation and training .
With his well-trained screw-spin-sliding skills, lazer-beam throws in the field, he makes a remarkable success of comeback.
At last the unveiling moment comes! Hyūma stands on the pitcher's mound with a ball in his RIGHT hand! ...yes, he revived as a right-hander, just like a phoenix from the ashes.
This is not only a story of Japanese animation. Indeed, it is about Shohei Ohtani, who is making a new great history as the wonderful two-way player in real. We get to know that the challenging spirit and continuous effort make him more genius which is way beyond the common sense.

ついにベールを脱ぎ、ピッチャーマウンドへ…
そう、飛雄馬は右ピッチャーとして甦ったのである。
