"I realized I was gay through YouTubers", says 16 year-old Adrianna Prattas, a Toronto based gay teen YouTuber. In this special LGBTQ+ coming out story exploring how gay youth find safe spaces and support on platforms like YouTube, Adrianna, an incredibly articulate Toronto teen lesbian decided to share her coming out story on www.pinkplanet.tv because she wanted to ensure more queer youth find someone they can connect with in this digital age. In her direct to camera interview, Adrianna explains, "I'm telling as many people as I can, just in case there is someone struggling with it so they realize that it's ok". Social media is often criticized for being a constant source of distraction for many youth as well as a place where bullying can run rampant, this touching LGBTQ+ real-life story reminds us that queer youth often can't explore queer content, like TV shows, in the family living room for fear of exposing themselves to questioning parents. On YouTube they can explore LGBTQ+ stories privately on their phones or tablets and hopefully make a connection to other gay youth and hopefully feel less isolated.
