South Korean and U.S. negotiators head to the table for their fourth round of defense cost-sharing talks in Washington today... as the two still remain miles apart on how much Seoul should pay more for the American troops on the Korean peninsula.
The U.S. congress has lauded South Korea's budget commitments to security.
In its defense bill for fiscal year 2020,... the U.S Senate noted that South Korea spends about 2-point-5 percent of its GDP on defense, the highest figure among U.S allies.
It also praised the Seoul government's shouldering of additional costs,... including the construction of Camp Humphreys for U.S. troops in Korea.
The Senate also said the Special Measures Agreement should ensure mutual benefits and respect... in recognition of South Korea's substantial cost-sharing commitments.
