The drought-stricken community using its own cash on water security | ABC News Last month it was bushfires bearing down on the town of Stanthorpe in south-east Queensland.

This week it's federal politicians looking for a backdrop for their announcements on drought relief.

When they arrive, they'll find the town's dam nearly dry.

But they'll also discover a community that hasn't been waiting around for government assistance. Instead, using millions of dollars of its own money on water security.
